Meeting Highlights (Thursday, August 19, 2010) The meeting began with Nancy Chong's speech on taking risks. She explained how undergraduate students are in an excellent position to take risks such as going on exchange programs. Using her own story as an example, she inspired us to seek out opportunities that we know are worthwhile but scare us a little bit. Nancy's speech was followed by Erin Pan's inspirational speech on following your heart. She explained to us how it is far more rewarding to do things that motivate us intrinsically than to do things for instrumental reasons. Oyu Bayarsaikhan then conducted a round of Table Topics in which she asked the audience to describe one of their failures and how it helped them in the long run. The final presentation was a retelling of "The Emperor's New Clothes" by Brian Keng, replete with quirky character voices, drama, suspense and morals.

Meeting Highlights (Thursday, August 12, 2010) This week’s meeting began with Nancy Chong’s presentation on the many aspects of photography. This was followed by Erin Pan’s discussion on how easily we can be persuaded into doing things that we would consider wrong. Between speeches, Darryl Huang and Nancy Chong had a debate on whether it is better to own a smartphone or a budget phone. The third presentation of the day was conducted by Oyu Bayarsaikhan on how to diffuse negative criticism. It even included a role-playing session with Darryl. The evening was rounded off with Table Topics conducted by Eric Zhang on what we would or would not change about ourselves.

Meeting Highlights (Thursday, August 5, 2010) Last week's meeting started off with Erin Pan's presentation “Noir” about a very novel dining experience in absolute darkness. This was followed by a round of table topics by Utkarsh Gaur who asked the audience to find creative uses of an extra hour in their lives. This was followed by a short but engaging debate between Dan Iosef and Erin Pan on whether it is better to dress casual or dress up when appearing in public. Moderated by Eric Zhang, the debate generated surprising new ideas from participants and audiences. Overall, it was an intimate and interactive meeting in which everyone heard something new.
